Columbia, South Carolina– Our junki team recently ran into James Flowers, a candidate for Richland County Sheriff and seasoned law enforcement official. It was a pleasure meeting such a qualified minority stepping into the political arena this election cycle. Flowers will running against seasoned sheriff Loen Lott, who has been in office since 1996.
Flower comes from a diverse law enforcement background, starting his career at the S.C. Probation, Parole and Pardon Services as a probation and parole agent. He was later promoted to community policing coordinator giving him an unique prospective in understanding the importance of community relationship with law enforcement. After years of working working with the community he was advanced to captain of the Special Operations Response Team. After leaving the agency to join SLED as a homeland security planner his experience at multiple levels of law enforcement increased and he become a part of the elite SLED SWAT Team and part of the FBI Violent Crime Task Force. He was also assigned to the U.S. Secret Service protection detail for presidential candidate and now President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
He has recent resigned from SLED to run for sheriff with the hopes of improving community engagement with law enforcement and protecting the citizens of Richland County.
